  • 98+ RS?

Ok, the 98+ RS had chrome 16' ZR-1 rims, Z28 exhaust, black heritage stripes, and only came in silver or red, not to mention a code on the door sticker. Not sure about the body kit, though.(I have heard rumors of a NBM RS, but haven't seen any proof) Am I wrong about any of these facts?

I have a buddy who has a black 99 Camaro V6 and he insists that it is an RS just because it's a V6. No stripes, alloy 5 spoke rims, single exhaust pipe, and no body kit.

"That's what RS means, a Z28 has a V8, the SS is a Z28 with appearance, suspension, and minor engine modifications, and the RS is the V6 model."

It's just kind of irritating really, if he wants to be a poser, let him, but I am just making sure I am getting the facts right. Help me out here, people.

All RSs are V6s. That does not go both ways. All V6s are not RSs.

Feel free to add any info to this.

no all vgs are not an rs ( i guess i am a poser b/c i have rs badges w/ my body kit removed) from my knowledge the rs in 96 and 97 was the body kit 3 piece spoiler and y87 package(not sure about the package) but it was mainly the body kit, from 98+ it was known as the appearance package and a y87 package, and there was NO RS badges, i THINK slp produced a few on a certain year of 98+ but im not sure, people who know more about this please chime in and correct me if and where i am wrong!!! btw i put rs badges on my car because i HAD the body kit and spoiler but body kit was removed etc etc and i like the badges cause ppl glance at it and think it is a Z or a v8 because i have something on the side of it, i know i know!!!! IM A POSER lol

98+ all it is is appearances, and yes, like Chet said, no badges usually.

tell him to check the door jam for y87 and W68

W68 i believe is the appearance package.

if he can provide proof of those plus a bodykit,dualexhaust,z28steeringrack,suspension,and lsd.

basically the rs is the z28 body/suspension/steering/rearend/exhaust with a v6 in it.

That's what I thought, I was just uncertain on which years they made them.

They produced about 900 RS's in '01 & '02. 2-3 were '00 models when they first started shipping them over to SLP.

They came in Red, Blue, Black & Silver.

i have the original sticker for my car, it says it has upgraded exhaust, suspension, and some other junk..... when i gave the vin to my insurance, they said it came up as an RS, which it has no extra appearance junk on it....

the SLP RS was basically an appearance package I'm not exactly sure about the certain colors or years, but I know for some 4th1/2 gens, it was stripes, zr1 16's, exhaust work, and rs badges, that's it. I read that on one of SLP's sites.
