• W68 Ground Effects, fix or ditch?

Since I had my accident about a month ago I've been driving around with funked up passenger-side ground effects because I don't have a long enough break from college to get it fixed. But soon I will, because the semester is ending and I'll have almost a month off to fix it. Problem is, I'm not sure what would be more expensive, fixing the damage or taking all the ground effects off my car completely.

Option 1: The damage is to the front passenger side piece which is scuffed badly and down the the base material, but it can probably be sanded out and repainted. It also busted lose a little from the car, I think a screw or something came out so it doesn't fit on the car like it should. I think it needs the pieces to be remounted as well. The passenger side rocker is also damaged badly and will almost definitely need to be replaced. Now if I have to replace even just one of the pieces its going to be VERY expensive. I think somebody quoted me at $600 JUST for the side rocker! The paint and remounting is probably gonna cost another $200 for both pieces, so I'm sitting at LEAST at $800.

Option 2: I'm not really that found of the W68 ground effects to be honest. Yes it makes the car look a little meaner because it appears to sit lower. And yes, it makes my V6 stand out more than the other plain V6ers out there. But at the price to repair, is it really worth it? I'm having my doubts. I prefer the clean look and want to make my car look as sleek as possible, aka like the Formula Firehawks. They are a different breed than Trans Ams because they are really smooth and beautiful in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'd give my left nut for a WS6 Trans Am, but it's just not an option for me now. I also hate worrying about scraping my gfx on the treacherous inclines and such around Norfolk (where I live and go to school). It floods a lot here so every damn entrance is sloped at like 45 degrees! How much do you guys think it would cost to take off all the ground effects and patch up/paint any damage they caused by being installed from the factory?

I really wanna hear some opinions, especially from you guys that have either put on or taken off ground effects before and can give me a heads up. Thanks.

To be serious, I am pretty sure people have remove factory ground effects, without there being any "factory" damage.

And to be self serving, Ill take those two front peices off your hands

try searching, I'm pretty sure there's been some posts on removing the factory ground effects. If you do remove them, let me know, I might take the whole shabang off your hands. A pic of the damged peices would be nice.

Ya, I probably will take them all off now that I've thought about it. I won't have it done until mid-december though but I can let you know more then. Just for thought though, how much would you pay for a used set of W68 gfx with 2 damaged (one needs paint, other fiberglass work/paint)? I'll try to take some pics of the damaged parts while it's still on the car so you can get a better idea.

Haha no problem dude, there are lots of people looking for a good deal on the W68 parts. And since no company replicates them yet, it's either buying them new from GM which is hella expensive, or buying them used from guys like us.

I'd sand and repaint them. As far as getting them to sit correctly on the car, it is simply a matter of removing the little screws underneath, re-seating the GFX on the rail-thingies they clip onto and then putting the screws back in.

I had to re-install both of mine (a couple of curbs jumped out at me and dislocated the GFX) and found it extremely easy to do.
