Well, I didn't even bother doing the whole car. I did the entire hood, and could already not stand the smell of the detailer spray, WAY too cinamonny. And really, I could not tell any difference in the look of the hood at all from before. My arm was tired as hell within 10 minutes, and no difference. So immediately, I got out the GoldClass and waxed the whole car to make up for that junk! Gotta love GoldClass, still my favorite by far! Anybody else tried the clay bar system, have opinions, share or disagree with my experience?

tried it, made a HUGE difference...do it about once a month, followed by a nice coat of wax. D@MN it looks good!!!! need sunglasses to look at it when it's bright outside. :cool: :D

The claybar does make a difference, and you should not use that Quik Detail stuff they provide. Follow these steps:
Wash car with dish detergent
Use the leftover mix of soap/water and put it in a spray bottle to lube the claybar.
Begin claying. You don't have to press hard, just flatten out the bar and rub it across the paint. Make sure to fold often.
Re-wash car and dry (use an Absorber).

I've used the Mother's claybar on my rear bumper, where all of the crap collects. Mother's gets it off everytime I use it. Dude! NEVER use dishwasher soap. Its the DEVIL on paint! I detailed at dealerships for 3 years when i was little ( 2 years ago [img]tongue.gif[/img] ) and learned the effects of dishwashing soap. If its a last resort and one time thing then fine, but ALWAYS use car soap. You can get a big tub for like 2 bucks. Seriously, my name might say "Rookie" but ive been on these boards for awhile just keep changing names, and i do have experience with detailing. Shell out the extra money and buy car soap. The bad thing about dishwashing soap is that it removes everything from the paint, including waxes. That is why it is harse to use. But in this case, that is good. You want to remove as much as possible from the car before claying. I don't know that it actually has any harse effects on the paint itself, maybe the weather seals and such? They don't want you using it at a dealership because it will remove the wax that is hiding all the buffer marks they put in the paint when prepping it [img]tongue.gif[/img]

I heard all the talk about the clay bar so i went down to walmart and all I found was the mother's kit for about $20. I picked it up washed my car then used it. I did the whole front end. It took a couple bugs and some mars I had off but it didn't do a whole lot to the car. I think there definatley is a little too much exaggeration for what it'll do.

This is the first time I've ever heard anything negative involving a claybar. I did it and thought it was the best thing in the world. My car has never looked better. It's hard to notice right off but once you take it out somewhere and look at it from a distance in some low light, oh my god it just shines like theres no tomorrow. It's getting about time to do it again now that I think about it. Who knows maybe your paint just doesn't have much for contaminants so it's not doing you any good, but I sure as hell love it.
97BIRD I recomend cutting down on the claybarring, I think that much use of it might damage your paint. It's intended for use once or twice a year to remove oxidation, old wax and grime thats stuck on your clear coat. I can tell the effect of the claybar every time I wax now, You'll probably have close to the same effect from just waxing for quite a while. Jason S : No offense but I really don't care that you worked at a dealership detailing cars, I have worked at a detail place as well. I knew more than the owners and everyone else who worked there. You will need to use dish detergent if you want the best results from a claybar.
RaVeN : A claybar will not damage your paint, as it is non-abrasive.

like all mechanics in ur state, all body shopman in ur state, all owners, salesman, wholesalers? Ya so do i. Frankly, you could have put it a little nicer, or even NOT at all. I did not realize you were trying to get the old wax off the paint. I too bought it and saw no difference, and maybe that is why. All you wouldve had to say is "Its to take off old wax" like above. Think before you type, were all on the same team here arent we? If im not mistaken we all love the same thing and help each other keep them running. Is it really nesessary to yell at someone for TRYING to help? If I was wrong, fine, correct me, but you dont gotta be a d!c* about it
