  • Black Top Vs Colored top

Hi Guys, I'm wondering why some camaros have a colored roof and some have a black one. I can't seem to come up with any justification.

    Thanks for your help.

yea the camaros with black tops have T-tops, the colored ones are just plain hardtops

No. Some hard top camaros have black painted tops and some are colored. WHY? I'm not just talking about t-top camaros either

i think it used to be one way, and at some point they changed it to another. they had either black b-pillars and that roof behind the t-tops was black as well

Just from observing, I think some camaros have a non-removable tinted glass top.... others without that option would be colored according to the car. Just an idea, not sure on accuracy here.

A black hardtop was available during the 93-97 body style. (not sure if it was for every year during that period) You did not have to have T-tops to get it.

No, 4th gen f-bodys never had a "non removable glass top".

for a while i believe you could go with either a color matched top, or a black top

Dont't V6's have the colored tops, and V8's have the straight black top and mirrors or something? that's seems to be the norm from what I've noticed. Maybe it's just coincidence and there are options, but I've noticed all V8's pretty much have the black top section whereas V6's have it colored in body color.

On hard top Camaros V6's always have body colored roofs. Z28's have black roof standard, but it could be ordered with body colored as an option. I think they stopped doing the black mirrors in 97 or 98. So for the most part body colored top means V6, unless you see the fairly rare option of body colored Z28. Ive been considering painting my roof black, i thnk it gives the entire greenhouse of the car a cleaner look, especially with tinted windows and the lack of a body colored A pillar.

Having a colored hard top and colored C-pillar (the one behind the roof) was an option. It was monochromatic roof/pillar. So you could either get t-tops, colored roof/pillar, or black roof/pillar.

                          ...at least from the factory.
That was my very first mod(15 miles on the odo).
I drove the car home, called the body shop, dropped it off the next day.
IMO...the blacked out greenhouse on white car is so much nicer than the white roof.

Hmm, I still think that black roof was part of the Z28 option on Camaros.... But i dunno/care.

So how much did that paint run you if you dont mind me asking? Ive always thought of getting it done.
