Cleaning Engine

Any one know good ways to do this? Mine is FILTHY and obviously never been cleaned:-( I just need some ideas on cleaning the engine and compartment.

let it cool, spray it with Degreaser, (Simple Green Works well) I like to USE WD-40. i ahve a detailing book and it says WD-40 is great because it doens't leave smells. I actually like the smell of WD-40. Anyways, I usually spray the dirty areas, let it sit, then wipe what i can with a cloth to get rid of all the dirt and moisture. Some people spray degreaser on the engine then spray it down with water. (Covering all Alternator and electrical) It's just your preference. I don't have to go about covering anything
