  • ram air hood painted, bubbles???

Just got the hood back, there are these extremely tiny bubbles all over the hood? The ends, up near the windshield, dont line up perfect, they are a little higher up. All these things are small blemishes, but i notice all these little details.

Is there any way to get out the bubbles, and fix the corners?

I also paid 424$ for the paint job.

Does it look like orange peel or what? A car needs to be buffed when it looks like the outside of an orange. If they are actual bubbles then the hood had contaminents on it when painted and eventually they will get bigger and the paint will flake off. Also about the corners, if it is an aftermarket hood then they rarely match up with the bodylines of the car.

You should definately take the hood back to the place. You shouldn't have bubbles like that. You paid top dollar for the work so it should have came out perfect.

It should be ok to wash your car like normal unless they advised you not to but don't wax or polish it because they could say that you caused the bubbles. I probably wouldn't even wash the car until you take it back to the body shop.

        Goodluck with getting it fixed!

By the way, what kind of hood is it??

Alright i wont wash it. It is a ws-6 hood. Looks just like the ones on the WS-6 ram air's from the factory. They did a great job matching the paint color, but the bubbles are killin me.

Take it back and have them repaint it.

Was it a genuine hood from GM or was it from an aftermarket company?? The quality of the hood could have something to do with the outcome of the paint job.

If they wet sanded it before they dried it which is usually how people paint hoods cuz thats how i did mine. If you don't get every little drop off the paint will crack right down it like it's pealing. Also if they didn't use the right kind of primer with the paint, it could be a defect. Check it out.

I took the hood back today, and they spent about an hour and a half on it, and now all the bubbles are gone. It looks great now. By the way it was an aftermarket hood.

the reason for the bubbles is because the hood had moisture on it in those areas of the bubbles, it was their fault so i would take it back and make them re-do it ;)
