      I have 30% on mine and haven't had any problems. I even drive it in NJ from time to time and they don't bother me either.
      As for Legality, any veh that has a aftermarket window tint installed on it is considered Illegal, no matter what the percentage reads. It's just the same with HID or Xenon lights. If the car didn't come from the factory that way, it's not considered safe and can be sited for the violation.
      Now most of the time the police go by what they can see through the tint (I do), but if your attitude is extremely bold, expect them to pull out their Motor Vehicle's Book and read it word by word! Oh, and saying "I bought it like this" doesn't work either. They can actually revoke the Inspection License where the shop inspected it because they passed it through without failing it on the tint. A bit extreme...yes, but it has been done!

        One more thing;
        5% is WAY TOO DARK! That's equivalent to Limousine Tint, and expect to be pulled over many of times with that on any of your windows. Just a warning to you.

            its 70%.... so terrible. there are a few rumors, one is that there is no number specified, that you just have to be able to see through it. another is like 25%, but most of the people i have talked to (at tint places) say that it is 70%, but as long as you dont go lower than 20 or 25, you wont have too many problems.

              I asked a local cop about pulling over for tint . He told me that as long he is able to see through, he wont pull anyone over. He also told me that most of the cops are like that. I have also heard (not 100% sure)that police can not pull you over JUST for tint....There must be something else. if he pulls you over for something else, you get two tickets.

                I have 5%.... i don't know about in PA, but it's definatley illegal here.

                also.. police can pull you over for just tint here, and the same if they see you not wearing a seat belt.

                  My friend has 5% on his car + his g/f's car. No problems getting pulled over here. 70% seriously? I'd rather just not tint the window.

                      I have 50 on my sides and 30 on the rear and have never had a problem with inspections or violations.

                      If I had to do it over again I think I would try 30 on the sides and 15 on the rear because mine is a little lighter than I really wanted.

                        I've wanted to tint my windows for a long time now, but I can't seem to talk my parents into it because it's illegal here in Michigan. I guess you can do any % on the back windows and back windshield but on the sides you can only get tint 4 inches down from the top. I was thinking about getting 50% or 35% on my sides; so you can still see through them. Do you think I'd get pulled over for that? I can't really get pulled over...my insurance company will find out about me (car's in my dads name) and the insurance will pretty much double; then I won't be able to afford it. I just want some opinions..

                          here in ohio, a ticket for window tint is an "equipemnt violation". speeding and stuff is a moving violation, and thats what makes insurance more. been pulled over three times, one was speeding, got a warning for tint, and two other times, the claimed that they couldnt see the sticker for my plate and finaly got a ticket for the tint. didnt raise my insurance at all and as they said above... telling the cop, or judge, that you bought the car that way doesnt work either... the judge asked me if i got the car from florida... lol, i live in ohio. but i really did buy the car that way with the tint.
