Simple problem, but then again I'm a stupid person so here goes. Started painting my radio trim with white krylon fusion paint (my bird is pewter and white seems to be a good color). Got some medium and fine grit sandpaper to smooth it down with beforehand. First few coats go on and its looking decent, then it runs. So I sand some off and try again, runs again. I figure I'm spraying too much on at once, is there a particular method you guys use to make it come out nice and smooth? I was thinking of doing it in sections, like say the bottom half of the trim in one sweep, wait till it dries, then the top half. I was doing two sweeps right after another but I think that may be the problem. I think I've done ten coats overall and its not looking all that great. I'm guessing I gotta sand it all and start over..

One more question as I feel its along the same subject. I'm trying to get that felt/cloth crap off the back of my speaker covers so I can work on those. I've torn most of it off, but there is still a bit stuck on with some kind of glue. They are small enough pieces where its pretty difficult to get off and some of the holes are still covered. What would remedy this? I have goo gone if that helps, haven't tried it yet though. The covers are smooth, do they require sanding still?

Whenever I painted plastic items I would spray really light and then sand it after it dried. I would continue doing that. Took me forever but I liked the way it turned out.

As for the speaker grille glue, hit it with a razor knife and then sand the whole thing off just to take care of 5 years of whatever could have stuck to the grille face.

You don't HAVE to sand anything, but I always sand and spray extremely light coats.

The best way to keep the resale value of your car is doing the minimum in terms of changes. When you paint it, put spinners on the wheels, paint out side lamps etc you cut the value

just spray REALLY light coats, if its running your too close/going too slow. i sanded mine down with 400 grit, then 800 grit, then primered, sanded with 800, 2 coats of primer, sanded with 800 again, then 2 base coats, sanded with 1000 grit, then did 3 more coats of color then 3 of clear, then hand buffed it and waxed it. mine came out great.

I painted mine with the Krylon Fusion paint and had no issues other than fish-eyeing when I accidentally touched the bare plastic before painting. Make sure you clean the plastic really well with denatured alcohol or some ammonia-based cleaner (windex) before painting and try not to touch it.
