Loochy is right. You leave the wax on until it is dry and flaky. If it takes 5 mins, then that's how long you wait. If it takes an hour - it takes an hour. Driving around is bad because you will be rubbing dirt into your paint.

Waxing an average of 4 times a year keeps the car protected and prevents wax build up. Your driving conditions may alter this some.

Rain-x will cause wax build-up. If you keep applying it, you will eventually HAVE to apply it to see through the windshield. I have heard many recommendations not to use it for this reason. You run out, you can't see. So I have been told. I have not tried it myself.

What do you mean by "wax build up"? It is my understanding that a cleaner wax will remove the layer of wax underneith it.

As far as rain-x goes, I love driving with it on, but it will make your windshield hazey if you don't have a fresh coat on and I have heard you cant get a crack in your winshield fixed if you have ever applied it. The stuff is heaven sent on a boat windshields though.

Good point. A paint cleaner will strip off old wax. I am not sure about a cleaner wax, but you are probably correct. I was referring to regular wax.

A cleaner wax isnt made to strip the other layer of wax off. its meant to clean fine particles and dirt that washing doesnt remove.

you can wax it as much as you want. i dont know what SpeedingFirebird wax build up.

As far as rain-x,again no idea where your getting this "build up" thing. you do realize rain-x and wax wears off. if you quit using then you quit using it its not going to make your windows cloudy, or become dependent.

            1) Wax buildup. The only way you will get a wax buildup is if you are using a synthetic wax (NXT, zaino). Carnuba(?) waxes actually strip the old layer off as you put the new layer on.

            2) Leaving wax on your car. Again, only the high end waxes should be left on for any period of time. Zaino (which is actually a polish) tells you to leave it on for a minimum of 30 minutes.

wax build up is when you new wax seals in old faded, baked in wax. Over time, if done too much, this can cause a diminished shine.

This I have heard from several people (one being a friend at a body shop). As I stated, never tried it myself. It does not completely wear off, leaving a thin film. If you leave you car dirty over the years, will the dirt wear off? nope.
