Dying painting interior???

I need to dye/ paint interior pieces. I need to make a headliner go from tan to black, some plastic pieces tan to black, and leather seats tan to black. What can/should i use to do this?

I want to do the same. Beige->Black. (hate beige)
Have anyone done this?

buy the stock black peices and take out your tan and put in the black, that the only way i know how to do it. sucks you got stuck with the tan parts... i pitty you.

Also, if you want to change out your headliner just go to any fabrics store or Wal-Mart and buy the material you need in the color you want. The headliner should not be that hard to do. The fabric is just glued on. Rip out the old fabric and replace it with the new by using spray adhesive. Just be sure to pull tight so you won't leave any wrinkles or air space. My cousin did this in his truck and he also put some flames in there too. It came out pretty good.

Krylon Fusion pait can do any plastic.
They should have matte finishes.

Krylon paint is not the best choice. Use Dupli-color. They have almost every factory color available to ensure a proper color match and the paint quality is really good. You can buy it at any Wal-mart or Auto zone.

Dupli-color will not stick to the plastic right. Well it will but not a long lasting finish.

It or any kind of paint can be used but you need a bonding agent before you used regular paints on that type of plastic.

dont forget you need new seat belts, floor mats, carpet.i would suggjest buying everything black from a donner car. expensive but chances are if u do it ur self your not going to get a professional outcome. dying leather and painted big interior pieces is a whole nother job from painting trim around your vents.

You could get the black leather shoe dye. It works, and doesn't fade. The only problem is it might be more of a flat black (The boots that I had to re-dye the tongue are long gone)

I was just thinking about doing this to my car. but the only thing that is holding me back in the carpeting. not sure what to do. maybe I will just die it. I want to do a silver and blue theme. I have the tan interior, allright stock I guess but no options for later.

Dying carpet black is the easiest. Cheap black spray paint.

But the carpet must be out of the car.


Sounds funny but it works. People have been doing it since the 70s. GM carpet hasn't changed much since then. You spray an area well then use a coarse bristle brush to brush the paint around to get all 4 side of the carpet pile and so it doesn't clump.

When its done it feel like carpet, acts like carpet and doesn't rub off the carpet.

if you can afford $6 cans of dye then go for it. But as it stands it will cost about $10 in Walmart paint.

My carpet was nasty gray, been "dyed" black for well over a year. looks nice, feels nice, was cheap as heck.

New carpet can be had but that cost more then $10 too.
