  • HELP!!! My stripes are cracking

I've had my car for a bout 6 months now. I bought it off a dealership. the guy who used to have it put some grey vinyl stripes on. They're cracking really bad and at some spots like on top of the trunck, you can literally see almost all the paint underneath. it's beginning to look really bad. Do you guys suggest anything. do you think I could put some new ones right over the old ones or would i have to take them off first. BTW, I have some 6 inch straight stripes so its hard to find new ones to match, all I can find are teh slanted ss stripes. Anyplace with straight stripes?

Even if you were able to find a set of the exact same stripes, it wouldn't be a good idea to just apply them over your original cracking stripes. It won't be smooth and may not stick well.

Use a heat gun and they should peel right off. Don't get to close to the stripe, you want to keep a distance so you dont ruin or burn the paint on the car. Don't keep the gun in one spot for too long, keep moving it around in a small section at a time. Once you get the end of the stripe up off of the car, keep it pulled tight and work the heat gun down the rest of the stripe. You want to try and get the whole stripe off in one piece otherwise you may have a helluva time picking around at very small pieces.

            Here's some stripes:

I tried contacting them but I never get a response, if you have an luck, let me know.

Heat gun works well, if you follow the instructions above. If some of the stripes are coming off, and have bare primer/metal, then you will have to remove the stripes AND do some prep work.
