  • 125 to 155 swap

i'm fond of my car now, but i really wanna get a nice looking gauge cluster. i gotta admit, i like the prospect of the speedo goin to 155, but i would really like to know what is involved in recalibrating the speedo, and if i should even bother and just have someone do it for me

can your car even go past 125? i dont know why people would want a higher MPH gauge cluster. its like.. "look what my car can't do". its like the people putting z28 badges on their cars. i just dont get it. but oh well.

meh, its not as much that i actually care if i go faster than 125. even i did, it doesnt really matter what the speedo says cuz it'll say it on the timeslip. im asking cuz im havin problems finding a gauge face that i like that only goes to 125. seems they're all made for the z28's

How hard is the swap anyways... and are you also screwed on the odometer?

my understanding is the mileae is stored in the guage cluster, so if you put on ine you will get the mileage of the one you put in.

            just what I heard.

I think that the odometer may be removeable from the gauge cluster on some years. I cannot confirm. Otherwise, a dealer con correct it.

Swapping the cluster itself is really easy. the speedometer will be correct, but the tach will be off as it is looking for signal from 8 cylinders and only gets input from 6. that can be corrected via a resistor or as part of a tune to your PCM via TSP.

I have a 155 cluster from a 98... but unfortunately that is a bastard year and can only work in another '98. you should be able to use a gauge cluster out of anything from '99-02

i think he just wants to switch to reverse glow gauges, and most of those on ebay are made for the z28 camaro's. As far as i know this does NOT involve swapping the whole cluster, so you will not have to swap out the odometer, meaning your only setback will be figuring out how to recalibrate the speedo.

BINGO! im sorry i wasnt clear enough at first... yeah im to get those reverse glow gauges, and thats y im wondering how to calibrate. as far as i know, all i gotta do is just take the gague face off and put the new one on so i wont need to replace the whole cluster. but the speedo needle will still go to the position where say, 55 once was, but on the new face face that would read something like 80. i hope im making a little more sense now...

Your car won't even do 120.

ok, seriously, i already addressed this, it doesnt MATTER whether or not it goes to 120. The only reason is that its 10x easier to find a gaugeface that i like if the speedo goes to 155; most of them are made for z28's. stop making dumb posts that are off topic
