• chrome plating wheels?

I have the polished 17x9.5" American Racing Torq Thruster II's and I was thinking about having them chrome plated. I hear all sorts of horror stories of chrome plating chipping off but I was wondering if there is a "quality" way of doing this? I love these wheels... they look great when shined up so i can only imagine how good they would look in chrome.

Has anyone looked into this or done this before?

After a recent endevor. You are in the best place to get chrome plating done. Cali! EPA standards everywhere are really stiff, making plating crappy. But the plating in your area is the best. I would look in some "classic hot rod" mags and see if there is a plating shop near you. I would also recommend speaking to some of there customers and see how happy they are.

I love those wheels too! I went with the Z06 wheels because there are too many people in my town with the torq. thrust II's, and I liked the ZO6's just as much. My point is GET CHROME. Chrome looks really good and I'm sure it would look really nice on those wheels. I think it would make them like totally new wheels.

I do wheel polishing and can tell you the only place I would have a wheel chromed is Cailfornia. On the other hand I can take a polished wheel and make it shine as good as chrome and not have to worry about peeling. I did Steves wheels (TealV6) and his wheels shine better than chrome.

I don't know if you can buy them polished. When Steve gave me the wheels they were painted silver. I stripped the paint sanded for days and then polished for 2 days.
This type of work is hard on the hands and very time consuming. You can do them faster but they won't look as good. Detail is everything.

Those are OE Concept Y2K Vette wheels. And Chris did one hell of a great job on them!! Tomorrow I'll be getting the rubberbands put on and HOPEFULLY the center caps get delivered.

Batman saw them in person today and was amazed at how nice they looked. Better than chrome.

If I get them mounted tomorrow I'll get some pictures up :D

yeah feel free to do that steve I'd like to see the pictures. It is a maintinance issue for me just as much as appearance. I love playing with my car.... less time spent on wheels = more time spent on the CAR! It's good to know I'm in the #1 state for chrome plating :D

hehe... I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've seen my wheels around California (and Oregon before I moved). At first I was upset because I got them RIGHT when they came out.... but I'll never get over how good they look spinning under the night lights. I'll let my friends drive my car just to see it

C.Palmer you keep saying it a maintenance thing. I don't under stand. I lived in Granada Hills Ca for about 6 years and had less detail work on my cars than any where else in the country. What are you using on your wheels? If polished correctly you should only have to do them once every 3 or 4 months out there. That should keep them looking like new. Your are talking a hour or two at the most.
I spend more time than that on my 87 IROC each month and Steve will tell you it looks like new. I will not drive my cars unless they are clean and both are like new. Again not dogging you just don't under stand.
