  • ALL W68 OWNERS: Question re: tape

I just removed an "undocumented option" that been on my car since I got it from the dealer.

The ground effects section directly in front of the driver's side reaer wheel had a small clear piece of thick, rubbery clear tape over the corner of it. It was nearly invisible for years, but began to yellow over the part year. This morning, I peeled it off and removed the sticky residue with Goo Gone.

There is no flaw visible on the ground effects and the tape seems to have caused no ill effects t the underlying paint or finih.

It seems this must have been something left on during production or shipping.

Has anyone else found this on their ground effects?
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I know what you're talking about, my dad's old 98 grand prix gt had the same stuff on it. It was to protect the paint from getting sand blasted, it worked, paint was missing from everywhere but where that clear stuff was. It's kindof like that Invicashield stuff that you can get for the nose of our cars.

I think it might have been something left over from when they shipped your car on the truck. The whole car sometimes is wrapped in plastic and that could have just be remnants of it.
