ok basically i want to split the back part of my rear seats so they have about 8-10 inches of seperation. i want to build a console between them to hold my 8" ed sub/subs. how hard would this be, and would i need to add another latch on each seat to keep them stable. i really need to keep my rear seats and this is the best thing i have come up with. im planning on fiberglassing from right behind the front armrest (eliminating the rear cup-holders) back to the back of the back seat for the box. any info on how the back of the rear seat is constructed would be appreciated.

The rear seat back is held in place on two pivot points, one on each side at the bottom. By cutting the seat back into two pieces, the inside part would have nothing supporting it. you would have to come up with something to hold the inside. I like you're idea though. Keep us posted on how this goes.98 White T-Top Firebird
w/ the crome 5 star rims
FRA, Smoothed stock lid,
Dynomax Super Turbo Exhaust
http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=346111

look at the 3rd gens, they had the option for a split rear, as well as having a set of center pivot points.
might want to use the parts for them, or at least get some ideas from them.

My Formula (91) had a split rear seat. Was pretty sweet. hmm. I think your BEST bet to do this would be to replace the backseat completely with some buckets.. I've seen that done and it looked well..Mustangs.. Come to the darkside...

The dark side is the path to the shadow of greed. =D

how would i go about putting buckets in? im not sure what type of buckets would fit?. and yeah i forgot about the pivots, i guess ill have to add those too. im guessing for me to do it it my self will probably be about 150 tops (including me reapulstering). yeah i shot that word in the back of the head. anyway this is just one of my ideas but i think im gonna run with it. if it works ill post a how to on my soon to be made web site.2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

get a set of front seats. should be able to mount them right up. might have to loose the rail they slide on, which would make mounting a little harder, but it cant be too hard. might actually look even better.
Of course, you could just loose the back seats all together. ALOT of people have done that. Then you could fit more than 8" subs. if you're going to redo the center console then you might has well 'glass a whole back piece for the subs.

there's a forum too for glassing questions if you need it. People there are very helpful

oh geez, it's a vert, not sure that buckets would work back there then. I know in a coupe there was someone who put C5 corvette seets in the front and rear. I just dont know on the vert if the seat sticking up so high would interfear with the top going up and down.98 White T-Top Firebird
w/ the crome 5 star rims
FRA, Smoothed stock lid,
Dynomax Super Turbo Exhaust
http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=346111
