So I read a mod to light the bud-vase holder in my wifes '04 Beatle and got an idea. I bought a set of blue LED licence plate bolts, $7 at Wal-Mart. Pulled the LED's out of bolts, they have the little diode so they are perfect. Cut off the regular light under the shifterplate, spliced them in. Put one in the hole to light the plate, the other I put in a pre existing hole on back of ashtray. Works perfect. $7 & fifteen minutes. Gotta like it. Glows blue, but you can get red, yellow, purp. green. [img]graemlins/rofl.gif[/img]

Man, good thing those LEDs were appropriately rated, resisted, etc.
Neat idea though. I like the idea of more LEDs over bulbs being used in cars.
