  • Custom Steering Wheel???

Has anyone done this mod? I have a new wheel for my 1995 bird, but don't know where to start. How much trouble is the air bag???

It can be done. But not recommended. The airbag is there for a reason - to save your life. Small trade just to have a "cooler" steering wheel.

if you want the wheel, go for it. dunno how the airbag works, but for sure find out info about that....if you remove it intact from the car it's usually worth some $$.

you'll need a steering wheel puller of sorts as well.

depending on what wheel you have, you may not be able to just "bolt it up." you may have to buy a hub or adapter to make it fit.

i can't see that job being overly difficult, once you get these little issues outta the way.

Steering wheel swap is very simple. I have a Sparco Muguello steering wheel on mine. I uesd a Momo hub adapter, which will bolt up to any Momo or Sparco steering wheel. I know that Grant makes an adapter too. The airbag is easy to deal with, just remove the fuse. Beyond that, remove the steering wheel and install the adapter then the new steering wheel goes on that.

This car is no longer a daily driver. I have a New Durango, and I will be trading it in after christmas. I will be getting the HEMI. Anyway, I only drive it 1 or 2 times a month. I will be tearing it all apart soon for the motor rebuild and turbo install. I just got the steering wheel free and thought I would install it.
