RS badges are a name, mock stripes are just that...mock stripes. Big diff. ;)

Not really... You would put the stripes on because you like them, but they are from a SS which is that you are trying to be like that car... Its just like adding a SS hood to a standard V6 its a hood that comes on a higher base Camaro but yet you are still putting it on the V6... Its all the same

It is your car, do what you want with it. When the rest of these people make your payments for you, they can tell you what to do with it. I have a 97 Firebird with custom made 30th anniversary stripes on it. No Firebird 30th anniversary car was ever done, but the T/A was. No one gives me grief for the stripes and actually it gets nothing but praise. You are not saying your car is an SS or a Z28, and an RS is is a V6 which you have. Do what you want with your car, if anyone asks tell them the truth, you like the RS badge and your car has everything the "real" RS has and yours was done from the factory. It doesn't matter what the rest of us here say, it is your car, have fun with it.

You're fine having your own opinion on the subject, but i have a hard time seeing how a ram air hood(that happened to be standard on SS cars) and the SS badging are the same.

A car with a ram air hood is just a car with a ram air hood.

A car with SS badge is an SS.

It's the name that counts. If you put a hood on your v6, some people might make a deal out of it not being an SS, but then you never said it was an SS, just that you like the hood either for performance, looks or both.

If you put SS badges on a V6, no one in the fbody world is going to giv eyou sympathy. :D

Just becuase RS' are commonly v6 cars, it's the same principle. YOu're taking the defining characteristic of an RS-- it's name -- and putting it on your car.

But if you think about it that Ram Air hood comes standard on the SS not a V6, so its part of the "SS" car... If you go and put a SS hood on a V6 car, I think more people would say that you are trying to be an SS than people that would say anthing about putting RS badges on a Camaro.. No one would even know the difference because my car came with the stock appearance package which is the RS GFX.. Do you understand what Im getting at?

Your car came with everything that an RS did except the RPO code that makes it a real RS. You said you only wanted to do this so that you could have something for the side to make it look better, so get a 3800 badge, a 93/94 Camaro badge, hell, get a Bowtie emblem and stick it on there, because you actually have those things. You do not, however, have an RS.

Also, when people put the ram air hoods or SLP grilles in, they're doing it for either an appearance or performance upgrade. They're not claiming to be something different through doing this, just trying to be a little different from the crowd. When you put the badges on, however, you're seen as claiming your car to be something that it's not.

Let me give an example. My brother has a Mercury Tracer (the Mercury version of the Ford Escort). Everything on the two cars is identical, exterior, interior, hell, my brother's car even has a Ford emblem on the steering wheel. Now, would it be right for my brother to put a Ford Escort badge on his car?

Like everyone else has said, it's your car, and you're going to do what you want, no matter what a bunch of guys on the Internet tell you. I'm just saying that it's not right to do it, and you really shouldn't.

Only because SS are more prominent. The principle is the same. Do you do what is right based on what you can get away with? ... or what is right?

I think it's fine to put the badges on as long as you have all the components, even if you got them aftermarket.. If someone took a V6 and did an engine swap for a LT1 or LS1 and upgraded the necessary components and put Z28 badges on it, I wouldn't see a problem with that.. They have made that car into a Z28, so I have no problem with them putting the badges on..

Also, in your case, if you get all the components and the badges on, it would be in your best interest to tell your insurance company.. They would increase the value of your car and if anything ever happened it would be worth more.. I think the RS is worth around 600 bucks more too, at least for the '96..

I have seen a fake Z28 before though and I was pretty disappointed in the guy who did it.. He got the wheels and an exhaust take off then put Z28 badges on his V6.. Said the only way to tell was to pop the hood.. I could only thing of 3 things.. 1. you could also tell by racing it [img]smile.gif[/img] , 2. Someone who knows their cars could tell by the exhaust sound that it was a V6, and 3. Why would you make the rest of us Camaro owners look bad like that?

But anyway, in your case, you deserve the RS badges since you have all the components so go for it..

The options were taken off SLP's website before they took it down.

Also, there was NO RS in 95'. They came back in 96'.
