  • Painting plastic peices???

Ok,how well could an average person paint plastic peices like on our bumers? I have a gsxr and I want to paint the plastics like the side fairings, and the tail piece. What's all involved? I was figuring on just using regular auto spay paint and clear coat. How well do you think it would turn out? I never really painted a car or anything like that, maybe touched up a bumper or something. Or should I just have it done professionally? Any help is appriciated. Thanks.

im a little confused as to waht you are wanting to paint whether it is exterior or interior. but you said it is plastic so ill give a vague answer you have never painted before (if exterior send it to a professional or practice) because spray paint and exterior equal bad stuff. second if its not spray can paint and is actual auto paint what do you have to apply it? if you feel comfortable applying the primer (unless done already) painting and clearing go for it but it needs a good place to dry free from dust and other contaminants that can land on the object during the drying process. spots in the paint arent pretty. i would suggest a professionals help. hope ive helped and didnt sound too much like an a$$

I just got mine off ebay for $2k. It's a 99 600 gixxer. It's my first bike. It has a clean title, but was dropped, so the plastics are all there, but mix matched now. It was the black and yellow color, but i'm converting it to the blue and white color. I already got a perfect blue and white tank so that don't need painted. I seen a bike on a movie I bought called streetracers.com, and I was gonna paint it like that. The tail black with maybe a blue stripe on the sides. The blue and white tank. Navy blue upper fairing, and either a carolina blue or a royal blue for the side fairings. Right now the rims are black, but i'm thinking about getting the white ones. Tell me what you think about this combination. Thanks for the reply.

i think your combination sounds good man. i am torn between the black and white rims tho. my bro in law had a black 01 gixxer that came with the yellow and silver but took the badges off and now r in carbon fiber and has a carbon fiber hugger and just looks so stealth ya know. i asked him bout painting the plastics and he said u has sand em down then paint it then seal it. if u go to gixxer.com the guys there r amazing on how much they know. there is another option u can do get new plastics that come primed and paint em that way. anyway i hope it comes out good. god i want a bike , soon , soon . haha
