  • Cleaning windows...good tips here

a testing magazine, the same one that introduced everyone to Zanio car polish, recently did a test for cleaning windows.

    #1 method for cleaning windows:

Bon Ami glass cleaner (Try bed, bath, and beyond to find it)
#0000 (thats FOUR zeros) steel wool.
    Lint-free clothes.

put the glass cleaner on, buff the window with the #0000 steel wool, and wipe off the solution with the towell. Supposedly, this will clean any window with anything on it. Just dont use the steel wool on tint. and #0000 is fine enough that it wont scratch your windows, so dont worry about that either.

#000 is also fine....but only use #0000 very carefully on mirrors....they are of a finer glass than the rest of the car.

i heard that too, but supposedly, for absolute clean, this dominates the old newspaper trick.

            YUP!

btw i've used that bon ami stuff, but i personally like the ZEP from home depot a whole lot better. they're both "foaming" glass cleaners, but for some reason the ZEP just seems to come cleaner a bit easier. ((shrugs))

Windex is ok for stationary windows....not for getting bugs off my windshield after being splatted at 100MPH.

I've done 50% Alcohol and 50% Water and mix it in a spray bottle. I works great with a paper towel, newspaper would do good too. I got this from a guy who did window cleaning for a living.

windex seems to streak on my windows pretty easily. dunno why, maybe it's the pollutants in the air here or something.

48% vinegar, 48& water, & 4% liquid hand soap works pretty good too....that's what i use on my tints, 'cause you're not supposed to use an ammonia based cleaner on them.

Have you guys ever tried waxing the windows? Thats what I do and it works great, makes water roll right off them plus the wax does a decent job of removing the water spots from the glass. Only thing is that you can't wax the windshield, you do that and your wipers won't do a thing...so, as long as you dont do the windshield, it works great.

I had one of my friends who works at a detail shop tell me. You just use car wax, the same stuff you use on your paint. Apply it to the windows just as you do on the paint, then just wipe it off as you do on the paint. It's no different than if you were waxing the rest of your car. I use Zymol, I love that stuff.
