• BACK WINDOW TINT PROBLEM!!!

When I got my 93 Camaro the back window was tinted and it was really bad :( so today I took it in to have it re-tinted, it looks a lot better but there is only one problem at the top of the back window the tint can't stick well because of them little black dots that GM put on all the back windows so now it does not look so good at the top of the window. I have seen this on many other camaros and firebirds. If you have this problem also please tell me what you think. I spent $199.00 to try and fix it but they could not so they just re-tinted it... The higher the quality of tint (3M) the better it will stick.

I've had both SolarGard and 3M on 2 different cars, and the 3M stuck like glue and didn't bubble over the dots. Plus my installer did it in ONE PIECE, and it looks smooth and perfect.

Dominic you are a lucky one. My trans am was recently tinted and it didn't stick too well to the dots, however it was quality tint. luckily it doesn't look too bad

you can fix this-
if you take like a small squeegy type thing you can smooth them out. Basically this small plastic yellow thing from home depot, sqeegy out the rest of the air/water, going in a diagnal patter. sorta like an X pattern. I dunno, I did mine like a month after the tint was put on and it did the job. At the very very top there's a little spot where I could do it again and fix it, but I forget to do it when I have time.
your tint shop might be able to do it for you, I called mine up and they told me what I could do if I didnt want to take it in. I had the yellow rubber/plastic thing from getting stickers off my old car.
Dont use anything too stiff cuz it'll tare the tint, like a hard but flexable rubber piece.

After 5 years mine is starting to let loose up there too. I can't complain five year old tint and it is only now starting to let go but only in that one spot. I may have to try the suggestion by Mr Coffee.

Jack, I dont know if it'll help you. See all I did was get some of the water, that was keeping the tint from sticking to the glass, out from in between those black dots. It might press your tint down against the glass and it might hold there, but I think your adhesive is just aged.
See the tint is like wallpaper. The glue on the back needs to be wettened to work. thats why you have to wait for the tint to dry before you roll the windows down. Well, the water in between the dots its just sitting there, and not drying (hopefully its not dry)so the tint cant stick to the glass. My other post will solve that. But if its been a long time then the water might of eventually dried, causing the glue on the tint to dry as well. I hope you can see what I'm trying to say.

Jsut tape off the window around the dots and spray it black, then tint up to the paint line... its not like you see out that far up anyways....

anyway i got the same thing, my advice to u is to use the squeegee method, it'll get most of the bubbly air pockets out...

My aunt got a new honda and they tinted the windows there and the accords have like the same problem and the dealer just put this black strip about 5in wide and across the back window to cover it up it looks good. What If I had it done would it look ok? it would have to be like 9 inches wide. I got so mad at it because I spent $200.00 to get that old taken off and new put on! So what do you guys and girls think about my idea???

I was going to suggest the same thing geisencam. When I get my windows tinted, I'm going to try to find some black vinyl to cover up those dots. Does anyone know if the dots actually serve a purpose?
