  • T-Top Conversion

I'll be moving down to sunny old Miami for college and have been contemplating doing a T-Top conversion b/c of the climate down there. At first I thought that it was a job too risky but now that I see a few people have done it sucessfully. If I do convert, I'll have someone (hopefully a chevy dealer) do the conversion. So should I dive into it or stay with the hardtop???

I love my T-tops.... if I had a hard top I'd be doing some cutting in a heartbeat. If you're going to Miami, do it! I live in Portland where it rains 9 months out of the year and I couldn't stand not having T's. I'm moving to LA in 6 weeks and if I had a hardtop I'd either be cutting it off or selling my car. It's well worth it IMO and a novice car enthusiast could do the majority of the work. Cut the top and driver/passenger support beams and prepare everything for the install kit. Then bring it into a body shop to have the final touches done. That should save you some labor $$$

It rains ALL the time in miami. Also, its really freakin hot during the day, so riding w/o ac on sucks. Best time to use t-tops is during the winter when its like 70.

predator5100: thanks for the offer but I'm in Mass right now, I'm planning on getting the job done before I go down south, thats when my "moding" is hopefully going to end.

First off, I can tell you now that a Chevy dealership wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole... too much liability. You may be lucky enough to find a mom&pop shop willing to do it for you. Every shop in my area here wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole.

I did mine my self, and my only regret is not doing it LAST spring. I live in Montana, where winter lasts 9 months, and I still had no hesitation to put them in despite our CRAPPY AZZ weather here.

                  Good luck!

First of all thank you MTMike for making me realize it can be done. I've looked over the intallation pics on your site and also at http://www.dw-zone.com/t-tops/t-top.asp and to me it doesnt look very easy. I do want to go through with it but theres somethings like removing the interior top and cutting and folding the ends of the beams that I'm still puzzled about. Does the T-Top kit come with instructions or did you just know where to cut/fold?

The kit does not come with instructions.

I learned where and how to cut by studying the pictures at http://www.dw-zone.com/t-tops/t-top.asp for more than a year..... After that it was pretty much just second-nature to me once I started cutting.
