  • window tint ?? and texas law

    Hi folks,

I'm thinking about tinting the side and rear window of my f-bird. I just wanted to double check about the rules for window tinting in Texas. 35% for the back and sides is the legal limit, right?

Is there anything else I should know about this process-- i've never had anything tinted before.

I may have this job done in Kentucky, as I've found an installer that will do it pretty inexpensively, and I like his work. [I'm visiting my folks there] Does $120 sound like a good deal?

    Thanks for any advice.

30 or 35% on the sides and no limit on the back for Texas I believe

35% on the sides is legal, back it can be what ever.

25% on sides and you can paint the back if you want to, but you must have at least one mirror that allows visibility to the rear for at least 500 feet.

you will pass inspection with 20%, but to operate on a public roadway it has to have no less than 25%.

i have 35% on the sides and 20% in the back. it works really well. i'd get 25% though since the law has changed.

if you need anymore details, just ask. there is quite a bit to the tint law.

Like Terminaldegree asked, about what is a good/average price for the side windows and the back?

Its 20% Ross trust me on this I'm trying to get certified to be a Safety and Emmisions Testman but taht ****ing test is hard. For the windows to the direct left and right of the drive its 20% or less any other windows have no limit except the front windshild. It cannot extend below the As-1 line or be more that 5 inchest from the top of the windshiled.

35% tint will give you about 24% total transmission which is what DV is talking about I believe. You can only measure total transmission of light which is less than the tint transmission.
