• clear coating rims...

So tomorrow I'm doing my drums and calipers and I want to polish my aluminum wheels really well while they are off. I know some of you guys love to clear coat the rims so how do I do this? Can I just tape off the tire (or not) and spray a couple of coats onto the wheel after I polish it? I have a can of clear coat and I know that I won't use it all for my brakes. What do you guys think? Also will it dull the shine and will it still cloud up?

You will lose some of the shine with clear coat, no way to avoid it.

The only thing about clear coating is, eventually the clear coat is going to start to chip, then you will have to completely strip the wheels down again and reclear them unless you want to look at chipping clearcoat.

Zoopseal is an aluminum protectant, put it on and you don't have to polish your wheels for 2-3 years. Won't dull the finish, and nothing to strip off.

yeah, definately DON'T clearcoat your rims. I did one of my Weld draglites and it came out duller than the others after I had just polished them with a wheel. Now I have one rim that is slightly different than the others. Only good thing is, there is one less wheel I have to polish after I wash the car!

        don't do it yourself.

the factory rims (Ws6, ect) are polished, and cleared, but thats done professionally.

i've cleared one part of a rim, and it is not as shiny as bare polished aluminum.

trying to clearcoat the rim yourself will probably lead to a minor disaster

Yea, I'm no pro with paint. My factory clear coat was stripped because I used chrome cleaner on it  . I just hate polishing them damnit. Oh well, thanks for the advice, I'm not going to do it.
