How can I change the color of the shift indicator on a 98 console?
How can I change the color of the shift indicator on a 98 console?
I swapped out my 95 console for a 98 and turns out the new console was from a TA. The shift indicator lights up red and I'd like it to be blue. I want the indicator light and my guages to match my stereo's colors. All of my Kenwood eXcelon stuff has blue buttons and the amps light up blue as well. I know I can find reverse gauges with the same blue all over the internet. I've searched but I can't find anything about changing the shift light color.
Can I take it out and repaint the underside to get a different glow? Does anybody sell these aftermarket? Anybody done this before?
Thanks.

You can take it out and repaint it or replace it with a different color. Taking apart the console isn't a big deal, I did it to reinstall the (clear) shifter light which had unscrewed itself from its socket.
Taking it apart is no problem. My poor car has had its interior in and out so many times, she's probably getting tired of it. I don't think overlays will solve the problem. The light will still shine through as red. I might try to remove the red paint from the back of the bezel.
Has anyone done this?
As for dash illumination color: Are there any blue bulb replacements? Possibly LEDs? I'd like it to all appear stock during the day, I just want all my night illumination to match.

The bulbs in the dash are clear too; like the shifter there is a painted piece of plastic behind the dash that the line shines through to make the gauges red.
So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
