  • Adhesive Remover

About 2 years ago i put on this plastic "V6" decal. Is there a safe way to remove this decal without damaging the paint on the car. I heard that Adhesive remover might help. Thanks!

Well, if you are talking about a badge, then the best trick I can recommend is to get some fishing line (I forget what weight) and then use a length of it to "saw" the badge off. Then removing the sticky tape underneath could be accomplished with some adhesive remover and a little elbow grease. I removed the side moldings from an old four door I used to own that were glued on. The adhesive tape that was left after I "sawed" the moldings off was removed by pushing my thumb down and across the tape covered in an old t-shirt (EDIT: Whatever you use with this method, use something soft and pliable that won't damage paint) to prevent my thumb from getting worn raw and using slight amounts of adhesive remover.

If you are talking about a vinyl decal, then a guitar pick will work. They usually cost 25 cents from the music store if you dont have one already. Use that to work under the decal. I have done this many times without damaging the paint. Guitar picks make wonderful scrapers/tape removers for applications like this. I would advise however not to "color" with it when using it. Use it to slowly and carefully work the tape up and away. Peel with your fingers as much as possible to avoid unnecessarily being harsh to the paint. Goo Gone and other adhesive removers work well for removing residue.

Before using a guitar pick and elbow greese, it's better safe then sorry. Go to a bodyshop and ask them about taking the adhesive off. They'll probably do it for you for free. That or find a rubber eraser wheel. Which they'll probably use to take it off.

what i would do is heat up the badge with a blowdryer, but be careful and do it lightly, then use floss or fishing line to basically saw it off like fenderman said
