  • Fender replacement

I'm attempting to restore my '95 Camaro for my son..who was 8 when I bought the car and told "one day I will give this to you".....anyway...

Does anyone have experience with changing a fender out? I wanna save the money and take the damaged one off and put the new one on..and then get it repainted.......

Any idea if this is more than a "regular" guy should do?

    Driver's Side, Passenger's Side?
    Front, Rear?

I'm not sure about the front ones, but the back ones, the everyday Joe can't do. Requires Body Shop Welding. Trust Me, I know... :(

It's very simple. I'm sure he means the front ones because the rears are known as quarter panels. You'll only need to take out the bolts underneath the hood, the wheel skirt and maybee a few other bolts, but should be very easy. Might I add though that you want to paint the fender off of the car. If you put it on unpainted, whether you paint it or a bodyshop you will probably need to take it off again. This is so you won't have to tape the whole car up to avoid overspray, you can just paint and then put it on and your good to go.

Yep, it's real simple to take the fenders off. Just some bolts and support bars.

Cool y'all...............hey, another thing. What size rim would you suggest for a 245/45/17 tire? Got a great deal on a set on EBAY and want the right width rim to suit this tire.....Thanks.

8" is probably best, but you can get away with 9" as well if you plan on running bigger tires on the back.

Also............if I get door repainted in the same fashion, how difficult is it to change out a door?

To replace the whole door? Or just paint the door you have on there now. If your replacing the whole door it is a little bit harder because you have to take the door pins out. A normal person could do it but it'd take some work, i'd probably take it to a bodyshop if I went that far. However, if there is damage to the door and that is why your replacing it, most bodyshops just remove the door skin and seam seal a new one on.

I have damage to the door, yes, that's why I'm replacing it.........but it sounds like the door I bought all they might do is take the skin off and "re-skin" the damaged one huh? I also bought the rocker molding piece thats damaged below the door. How difficult is that. No doubt a bodyshop because of the welding I would imagine required..

I replaced the door on my 90 firebird a couple weeks ago, if its like my bird if you are taking the fender off doing it with the fender off would make it easier. I got mine at the junkyward and just unbolted the hinges from the body instead of removing the hinge pins and spring. But anyways. the top hinge bolted to the car from the out side, and the bottom one had one bolt that went in from the outside and 2 from the inside which required removing the kick panel. But it was prety easy. also you have to remove any electrical connections and pull them though the rubber boot in the door jam.

u remove the fender like the other person said, but u also will probable need to take out the plastic inner fender. its just pull pins and screws, then un bolt the fender from the bumper. if ur gonna replace the whole door, it would be alot easyer to find a door to match urs, like power mirrors locks windows, because that makes alot more work.
and get a used factory fender over a new aftermarket one. they are usually crap and dont match up right. mine has a big gap between the bumper and the fender. now it is starting to rol and curl along where it lines up with the hood, and in the crevis of the curve my paint is cracked off.
