Powersanding the peices as smooth as a baby's butt, primed them, painted them with 5 coats of duplicolor enamel (not those 99 spray paints...runs bout 5 dollars a can)....and 5 coats of duplicolor truck and suv clear coat...thats it. Weekend job, ran me about 50 to 60 dollars to do all i've done thus far...only cause of how many coats i used...but if u want depth in the color, gotta use lots of coats, if u want it really shiny gotta use lots of coats of clear

Could I bypass the sanding if I wanted to leave the texture there?

I'd still sand it to allow the paint at adhear properly and get rid all the chemicals (ie. armor all and such). If u wanted to keep the texture, I'd say sand it lightly just to scuff up the surface while still leaving the stock texture, then clean it with alchol. Then go ahead and prime it. If u don't scuff it up...it will start to peal and bubble..if ur not lucky
