mod to make '97 hood vents functional (??)

has any one ever thought of either replacing or modifying the "ornamental" vents on a 1993 - 1997 hood to make them functional, and help the engine ventilate better?

It would only work in reverse... since the vents do go down and air flows over them, not into them.

if you pop off the plastic vents, are there any holes that lead to the engine compartment? even if air isnt going directly into the vents, it seems like it would help a little, especially when the temp needle is crawling towards the 210 deg mark! my main concern would be when it rains would water present a problem?
