  • Question about racing stripes

Thinking about getting some dual white stripes on my car but I got some questions.

    1. Where can I get osme decent quality ones for cheap? I havent a lot of money.

    2. Are they safe for the future? Meaning will the material eat away at the paint and fade it down the line?

    Thanks ;)

    1. Try this place. I bought my bird hood decal from him and he has the best prices around.

    2. I think you should first decide if you are going to want the stripes on there or not. My bird is in the shop getting painted right now, and before I took it in, I tried lifting up the hood decal to see if it would come off, and that thing wasn't going anywhere. After months of sitting in the hot sun, the bird decal was probably baked onto the hood. Of course if you later decide you don't like the stripes you could always get a paint job. I'm sure the stripes would look good though, I don't think you'd have a reason to take them off.

Tony... I have heard some good things about AutoGraFics.com but when I was looking to get stripes for my Camaro I decided not to get them because they sell by the foot. Meaning that you would need to start the stripe at the front edge and take it all the way to the bottom of the back. Like a ground to ground look. I got mine from Stripeman.com, I was looking for the ones that start between the headlights. I ended up getting the 30th Anny stripes. I haven't put them on yet, so I can't comment on how they effect the paint. Hope this helps.

If i was going to get stripes, i would have them painted on. It would cost more, but that's what i would do.

actually you can take the stripes off if you get tired of em. a friend of mine had them on his eclipse for 2 years, got bored with them, and had them taken off. they use this huge @ss hair dryer type thing to put stripes on, same to take em off. on the other hand i had another friend with them on his camaro and he tried to have the same guy remove them, and it ripped the clear coat off the nose of his car. so it's an option to take em off, but its not completely safe.

Thing is, im not getting them for looks. I have this NASTY key scratch on the back of my car, right above where it says CAMARO. It looks terrible , and because my car is black, it stands out like Shaq walking down frisco :(

I just wanted it to cover it up, it looks like it will cover most of the scratch up, the scratch is about mmm 4 or 5 inchs going left to right.

Thanks for all your help, im still decidiing

              Two more Q:

              1. I saw some stripes at kragen for about 15 bucks, the package had a red camaro on it. Anyone know if these are good? I lost the tag for it so I dont know the brand.

              2. Do i need to get them specialized for camaro? Like, I cant just get straight stripes that "will fit any car"? I have to order a kit that will only fit on my 96 camaro?

Ah crap! I thought the stripes went down further on the back. Ah man, ill never get rid of that scratch!!!!

Is there any other decals that would go over the panel thats above the "camaro" lettering and below the spoiler?

for the rear panal, I have seen some special edition camaro's have that panal painted gray, it would look cool on a black car I think, check it out.

My stripes were very easy to put on. I did them myself in about an hour and a half. I was gonna have them painted on but I was afraid of not liking them afterwards so bought the vinyl ones. I got a universal kit that came with 30ft of 6 1/2in striping. If you want the kind that came on the 30th or 35th anniversary z28's then those cost about $200+ bucks on eBay.

I bought a kit from 3rd gen decals. I put them on myself and later put stripes on a friend's Camaro also. Both went on good and it was fairly simple. Just a little time comsuming, but with following the directions and patience it wasn't too hard to do.

That is what I was thinking also, but I decided to see if I liked this color on the car before I get them painted on. The decals are a bit more forgiving.

Tony, I remember seeing a red Camaro with a big wide stripe down the center that looked pretty nice... will this cover your scratch? Just a thought. BTW, if you were going to have the back panel painted gray, why wouldn't you just have it painted black again?

My scratch is above the CAMARO letterings, and its not a place people put stripes. I just don't know what I can do about it, its so nasty looking.

                              Any other ideas?
