• cops pulled over for black outs?

has anyone with blackouts ever been pulled over? i had some on my old mustang, and i got pulled over, they said it was causing too much light to be blocked or some crap like that. i live in oregon, not sure if there are different laws in different states about this...

on a sunny day do the lights show through the black outs enough for people to see which way you're turning?

I had them and got pulled over all the time. I just played dumb, "oh they are illegal? I didn't know!"

I took them off and I'm gonna get rid of them.

I've never gotten pulled over for mine. I've been in front of several squad cars of differen cities and even the state troopers and theyve never done anything.

i had a cop tell me that i could have them as long as i stuck some kinda reflective tape somewhere and that light had to be able to be seen from 500 ft away.
i was swimming in the carribean. animals were hiding behind the rocks except for the little fish, but they told me the squid\'s trying to talk to me. oink, oink. where is my mind?

That is similar to what I have heard before, that the laws do not specifically say that blackouts are illegal, but the light must be visible from a certain distance or have a certain brightness, or something to that effect. And to be honest, it can be quite difficult to see the taillights during the day in some cases.

Blackouts are Illegal, everywhere here in the US. Look on the box, it says "for off-road use only". Anytime the stock lighting is altered on any vehicle, it's Illegal. Even the clear front turn signal lenses are Illegal. I have the clear front turn signal lenses on my car, but I put yellow bulbs inside and my car passed inspection.
I pull people over all the time with Blue or Green Rear Bulbs, and Blue or Green, and sometimes a Blacklight effect Front Bulbs on their cars, but most of the time I tell them to change them back to Yellow up front, and Red in the back. Some of those RICE guys go crazy with all the different colors they install, and they give me a hard time when I'm trying to explain what is and isn't Illegal. Needless to say, I see them in Court a few months down the road.
Just try not to give the cop a hard time, most of the time he/she will let you go with just a warning.

marc, so I am assuming you're a cop?

do you pull guys for speeding when it's 5 to 7mph over the limit? I heard it's "ok" in the city to do 5 over, and on the highway 10 over. Is this "correct"?

believe it or not, a lot of municipal and county cops don't know of the federal law. you can't have anything on the rear tail lamps.

let's just say i know my sh!t.

So true about city and county cops not knowing laws! I called the Fayetteville police station and asked them about tint laws. They transfered me all over the place cause none of them knew what the laws were. What I got out of them was 35% and under was illegal on the front side windows.

Got pull over for it (1-1/2 years with 6% tint and he wants to pull me over for it Christmas night!?!) Had to peel off the tint in so I wouldn't have to pay the fine. Then I had to go to the NC highway patrol office and get them to inspect the windows. He showed me what the real law was from a law book. In NC a CAR can't have any window darker than 35%, and a tint strip on the front windshield can only come down 5 inches. In a TRUCK/VAN/SUV the front side windows can't be darker than 35%, same about the tint on windshield, and any other windows can be as dark as you want.

I still have sticky residue on my back glass cause the residue will only come off with a razor and my rear defroster won't survive a razor! :(

5 MPH over is acceptible. It's enough speed to pass/overtake someone IF you are going the normal 55MPH, which no-one ever does. The Motor Veh. Code from any State does require Law Enf. Officer's to issue a citation for a Vehicle traveling more than 5MPH over the posted speed limit (ie: 61MPH or more in a 55MPH area).
BUT, cops love people that can negotiate the law to them! That's where numerous citations come into play. I had a Township Cop pull me over awhile ago, and he saw my Badge and ID, but still was going to give me a ticket because I was on the brink of giving him a hard time. I thought about it, and decided to cooperate, and he let me go.
9 times outta 10, COOPERATION is the key!!!!
