• (Update! New Pics today, 11/24!) Brand new paint job, check out my Firebird!

Here are some new pictures for you guys:
http://home1.gte.net/res07t9s/navyblueweb2/index.html
-----------------------
Original message:

I just got it back tonight and took some pictures of it in the garage. I really like the color and how it turned out! What do you guys think? I will take some better pictures tomorrow when there is sunlight and after I clean the dirty wheels. Here is the mini web site for it:

Navy Blue Metallic

The guy who was painting my car said to come back next weekend so he can buff it and finish it off, and it should be very smooth, and look a little darker after that.

For right now, I will just enjoy the firebird without the huge bird logo on the hood, but in a few months, since I am good with airbrushing (although I have never airbrushed on a car before) I will probably try to do the bird on the hood myself. It should be easy since I just need to make like a huge "stencil" and spray. I think silver would be a great accent color for this car, so that is probably what color I'll paint the bird logo, opinions on that? Or do you like it better with no bird on the hood? Thanks for sharing any opinions.

I would just get a hood bird decal - then you don't need to worry about any paint issues!

Looks great, really really metallic!

Wow. A brand new paint job makes a world of difference on a 3rd gen. I didn't use to care much for them but now that I see what they can look like with a good paint job I'm impressed. Good job man. And go for the silver bird, that'd look sweet.

Very nice. I like it! Where did you go to get it painted and how much did it cost. Is it a lifetime warranty? The roof on the 89 bird is faded and it needs to be painted, Thanks.

Thanks again guys. I got an awesome deal, it was $450 with a 6 year warrantee. I think it is well worth it because the painter didn't just paint it, he also fixed some minor dents/cracks throughout the car. He also gave me a high quality paint and painted it several different color coats to get it to have this effect. I think it looks good and he isn't even done with it yet (have to go next weekend for him to finish it off).

I thought about getting a decal, but one reason why I would paint the bird on myself is the decal only covers a small portion of the hood (and costs $100 plus shipping). I wanted to make it bigger, and have the wing tips go a little past the edge of the hood, ending on the side of the car and possibly have flames coming from them.

The shop was actually an Earl Scheib, but this place is different from other Earl Sheibs. He has higher quality paint and let me choose from thousands of colors. For example, what Earl Scheib would be painting 2 corvettes, a convertible GTO (pretty sure it was a gto but didn't get a good look at it), a NSX, and giving a bmw a $2,000 custom paint job for a car show (white car w/ blue ghost flames that went from the front of the car to the back, it wasn't completely done but from what I saw, it looked awesome.)

Mighty Thor, I would recommend just getting a Pro 1 paint job from an Earl Scheib. For $199 you could get the whole car painted. This is what I did when I had my car painted gray by a normal Earl Schieb. Here are pics of that paint job:
http://home1.gte.net/res07t9s/pictures.html

I mean it isn't as nice as my blue paint job, but I think it still looked really good. If you have a lot of money to spend, you could always go to a custom paint shop and spend a little more for a better paint job.
