  • will chrome rims hurt performance

Say i got some 2000 chrome c5 rims. They have got to weigh more than what i have now, painted stock 5 spoke. Will the added weight hurt performance? How much more do you think they wheigh that stock?

The chrome itself will not add any weight. Don't let anyone tell you that.

    Do it.

I say you put the chrome rims on and go to the Gym today, get on the tread mill for about half an hour...and you will probably loose more water weight than the chrome will put on.

If you gonna get rims get CHROME. Weight isn't that much of a deal unless you're getting dubs. Just my .02

Don't listen to these mokes... putting chromed rims on will kill your quarter by AT LEAST three tenths of a second.

Geez... Typically 17 inch wheels weigh more than 16 inch. Wheels typically are considered as rotating mass. So for each lb a wheel weighs is like adding 4 or 5 lbs to the car.

So if your stock wheels and tires weigh 45 lbs each and you switch to wheels and tires that weigh 55 lbs each. Its similar to adding 200 lbs to the car. Assuming every 100 lbs = .05 sec, you would lose .1 seconds over the 1/4.

This is not fact but pretty close.

i have my set of stock 16 inchers and a set of 17 inch WS6 polished wheels... i can tell a difference in accleration between the two, the 17s weight a lot more, but look oh so much better. so i keep 16s for when i go to track.

houston f-body... what part of town are you in? we have a club for just v6 fbodies in houston called sick sixx and our own forum on this board, post in there sometime maybe we can meet up.

ask nathan aka TheBeast on this board this question... he has 17" slp chrome ws6 wheels and we swapped them with jeffs 16" z28 wheels and he ran .4 better at the track (an extreme example but), going from 16" painted to 16" chrome there wont hardly be any difference.

how many people that have posted saying there is no diference in preformance have run 16" then gone to 17"? if the people who posted had, then they would know the correct answer
