• I Finally Replace My Weak Fog Lamps ...Pics Inside.

One of my stock fog lamps burnt out. Im not the kinda guy who goes out and buys one replacement bulb, because chances are one is going to be brighter or a different color, and it will look unbalanced.

I know I couldn't just get upgrade the bulbs to 55w because it will melt the housing. So I searched ebay for a few weeks and got a steal on a $90 PILOT PRO SERIES #PL-360W HOLOGEN LIGHT 4'' DIA. 55W a peice.

They actually fit real well inside the opening. The stock lamps are about 3/16th bigger. Hardly noticeable.

Having a Glass lense looks so much cleaner. I just now gott figure out how to shine up the lens on th DRL's Cause they look milky next to the new fogs.

Ill get some night pics later.

I appologize about the dirty car, I didnt' have time to wash her today.

How would you clean the stock lenses? Mine aren't bad, but they need some spit and shine to look brand new.

Try some paint cleaner, paint polish, plastic cleaner, polishing compound, rubbing compound,,,anything with some abrasives in it.

i used a high speed buffer with some Magic cleaner wax. It has some abrassives in it and it does a nice job of polishing the crap off the lense.

Well, I dont have any night pics, but I will say that they are actually brighter than my Headlights. If It wasn't illegal to just run Fogs, I would.

Along with polishing my DRLs up, I think its time for a sealed beam conversion.

Not to difficult. I guess it all depends on the bracket supplied by the new lights and your imagination/mechanical skills.

It is possible to use the metal stock bracket if you lights are shallow enough. But the problem occurs that the mounting point for the light to the bracket is really narrow.

Since the width of the mounting holes of the light were two wide and set to far foward on the light, it was not possible to use the stock bracket.

My choices were to fabricate a linkage between the two or ditch the stock mounting plate.

I removed the stock mounting plate.

That does present a problem. Without out the mounting plate, There really isn't any rigid material to work with. Just the thin bumber cover.

I was lucky, because the stock mounting bracket was secured to the bumper cover with holes. So i recylcled the center whole. Then I used a thick machine screw and nut, with two LARGE washers. The
two washers give the back of the fog light pocket some rigidity, (more than the thin bumper cover plastic.) Its more or less a large screw clamp. But its been almost a week, and they are still securely fastened.

                      Hmmm.... Not bad at all!

                      1. Got any great ideas about replacing the DRLs? I agree with you, I'd be a lot happier with the DRLs if they had clearer lenses.

                      2. Please give an update in a few weeks about how the mounting is holding up.

What bulbs do your lights take? I installed Pilot 362W's a while ago... http://www.pilotautomotive.com/pilot2as2.htm
(For some reason the dimension is listed as 5 and 1/8 for the 362W's, which is incorrect.)

For anyone else that wants to replace the foglights, you should consider using the Pilot 602W foglights (They may be branded as Cyber White, or Navigator, but as long as the part number is NV602W you are set). You can get them at Walmart for $30 and they will perform great. Those are the lights of choice over on clubgp, and they cannot be beat for the price. If you do choose to install those, then the easiest way is to retain the stock montain plate, and rotate the new bracket 90* on the light. Then you attach the back (formerly the top) to the original plate and reinstall. You'll have to modify the bracket slightly so that the foglight doesn't stick too far forward. Since you retain the stock plate that is held into the bumper with three bots, the fogs should be secure and won't vibrate around or bounce when you go over rough roads. My mounting method also allows aiming of the beam up and down and left to right. If you install the fogs using my method, I'm going to require that you credit me, although I do realize that it will be difficult for you to follow without pics and with such a vague explanation But if someone was really serious you could always email me and I might go into much greater detail.

I have pictures of my install on a camera somewhere from when I installed my fogs way back in March. I was going to do a write-up but never got around to it because I hadn't worked out the kinks in the LED Halo/turn signal integration part of my project. Since the 362W's allow you to select between halo colors, I was going to use some SPDT relays to make the halo change from white to amber w/ the turn signals.

Forgot to say sorry for the slight thread jack... and also that those fogs look nice. Everyone should switch to glass housings for the foglights

Nice job PewterBird and hood too. HAZ-Matt I did the same thing with the pilot cyber white w/ the 7 rings. About a year ago, Oh, I do have a write up similar to what you said. The lights are alot better than the stock and it fills the gap too.
