  • Paging everyone who has put newer dash in 95-96 fbody

I would like to put a 00+ camaro dash in my 96 but i have a few questions. Will my 96 3.8 speedo work in a 00+ dash, will my dash wiring connect to the 00+ dash cluster? Will a 00+ 3.8 speedo be compatible with my 96? I would rather use the 00+ speedo but am not certain my wiring would connect. I also noticed the heater vents are different can this be worked out as well?

No your 96 speedo won't work, they look nothing alike, the 00+ is much nicer and has the digital odometer which IMO looks better than the analog odometer in the 93-96's. No you'd have to get a 93-02 bird or 97-02 Camaro connector and rewire it. The 00+ cluster should work just like your 96 cluster. When you get a new dash it'll come with the duct work from it which sits in the dash exactly like your 96 dash does.

The part number for the connector you need is p/n 12065803, but yes it's the one for the cluster. You can go to a salvage yard and cut one off a Firebird or Camaro, and cut it as far back on the harness as you can. Either that or order one new from GM and cut your connector on your car off and take all the wires out of it and rewire into the new connector. This site and the owner were very helpful to me http://camaroz28.cardomain.com/memberpage/345879/3. You'll just have to extend a couple of the other connectors. No, your ses light won't come on, don't quote me, but I think the digital dash has chip that stores the info the mileage and the pcm also stores the mileage, all you should have to do is have a gm dealer or an electronics place reset it to your mileage. I haven't had that done yet, so I'm not sure on that. But your pcm will be fine.
