Question on Sanding

On my civic right now there is stock ground effects which arent like im sure you will imagine...anyhow the add on back bumper is a little messed up and i want to repaint it but dont want to pay somebody to do it...i have a friend that has all the tools and were going to paint it ourselves but the question is what exactly do i use to sand all the paint off the bumper?? Never done this before, any input will be greatly appreciated

Start out with a heavy grade sandpaper like 500 grit, Sand until most of the paint is gone.

Then move to wet sandpaper 1,000 grit when most of the paint is removed.

When done with 1,000 grit, go to 2,000 wet grit to finalize.

The more you use the fine sandpaper (1,500 grit, 2,000 grit), the better the results when you paint.
