HEADLAMP REALLY EXPENSIVE!!

I was looking to replace my driver side headlamp. The passenger side was replaced recently, and makes the other side look ..well... old! All I really need is the clear cover in front but that isn't sold seperatley, so i need to purchase the whole unit. I called a local Dealer and got a $312.00 quote! DAaaannnngggg!!!!
The cheapest I found on the net was through a dealer in Cali for $240.00. I still think that's a rip-off. Does anyone have suggestions?
My headlamp isn't broken, it just has that dirty crust that builds up from road grime. Maybe there's someway to clean it?
I need some help please!!!!

maybe try to find a used one on ebay (try a guy named a fparts, he has alot of 4th gen fbody parts) or one off a totalled camaro on speedautomotive.com

I take it you have a firebird, because I know camaro headlamps aren't that expensive. Which year car do you have. GMpartsdirect.com is wayyyy cheaper then any dealer. I know they're at least 30% off what the dealer would charge you. The headlamp is probably a sealed beam so there's probaby no real way you can get in there w/o breaking it. I could be wrong though.
