  • Ever paint part of the car yourself

I have to paint part of the front end of my car where the grille is because I want to put on another grille. So when I take off the grille its silver with 6 crappy little holes (picture) : "http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/8/web/608000-608999/608775_45_full.jpg"
(I'm sure you F-body guys know that already)

Anyways, I have a grille and Im going to paint it, and also the front end to hopefully come up with something like so:

Question is, what kind of paint, is there special good stuff? Should I have my neighbor try to do it professionally done?

One guy did it and i got this response:
"Thanks! I painted it at home with SEMS (brand) Satin Black. Removed the stock grille, scuffed the area with a scotch pad, cleaned with rubbing alcohol, then masked and sprayed. Yeah I drilled the pilot holes, don't recall the size bit. The grille has been on since Dec 00 with no probs."

    Any suggestions THX!

I've painted my mirror before with just spraypaint, and had it come out real nice. I'm not sure if that grill is just plastic, but if it is, use Krylon Fusion. Just make sure you clean up the grill with some alcohol and then the fusion doesn't require any primer or anything.

However, if you can afford to have it professionally done, i'd do that.

Be careful and don't go nuts. I just got done doing a 10 foot paint job. From ten feet away it looks really really nice. Any closer and I feel sick. It was suppose to just be some touch up like yours but ended up doing the whole car. But I kept having problems and ended up just painting the whole thing just to get it over n done with.

take it easy, mask everything well. Tape every seam of the paper well. Over spray sucks bad and will get on parts 3 feet away. try to spray down wind sort of. so the over spray flys away from the car.
