  • A word to the wise: keeping your paint nice

If you plan on keeping the paint on your car looking nice (especially on the front end) DON'T drive fast on the highway. I've discovered over the past few months after serious high-speed highway driving that it causes chips and scratches to appear faster than if you drive normanlly. Drive at a reasonable speed, if not for your safety then for your paint job.

    By high-speed I mean 85mph+

its not high speed that messes up your paint, its driving to close to vehicles w/o mudflaps. Pickup trucks and tractor trailors throw stones up like crazy.......

stay a good distance from trucks, and you are fine.

if u wanna save your paint dont drive it, the only way to keep scratches adn chips off it, or in my case idiot drivers who decide to hit your parked car after getting a brand new paint job

I had the same thing happen to my car. However, I'd agree with the speed assesment versus following too close. My car got horrible from Interstate driving. I had it painted a year and a half ago and I've done the same Interstate driving as before and no chips yet at all. That's not to say they won't come, that's unavoidable. But, it's A ok thus far.

Chips and dings happen...all you can do is your best to avoid situations that cause them.

GM paint is not durable and will not hold up to speeds past 85MPH... and if you hit 88MPH you will disappear and travel back to the future.

If you don't hit any rocks or stuff in the road the paint could careless if youre going 25MPH or 125MPH

its not the speed alone that causes the chips. there has to be something thrown up by a tire and flying through the air to hit your car. its following behind cars at highway speeds that causes the chips. when youre going 85 down a highway behind another car doing 85 youre more likely to get chips than in a 40. good luck though finding a highway where you never have to sit behind another car. i just do my best to stay as far back as i can, and my front end stil looks pretty darn good.

the best way to keep your paint/windshield free of chips and rocks is to LEAD not FOLLOW.
