• polishing silver to shine like chrome

i have a 97 camaro rs with the stock 16x8 alloy rims on it. is there anyway i can sand these to make them polish up. i really want them to shine.

i was thinking of use 1000 grit paper and going to town on them, but once i start i can't go back, you know what i mean

I don't know how you should get the existing paint off the rims. But when you do get them down to the bare metal you may want to try this metal polish called "Blue Magic". It comes in a small can and it's a cream. That stuff works great. If you do go ahead and do this, let me know how they turn out. I was kinda wondering about doing the same thing to mine after I saw how good that metal polish works.

I wouldn't start wet-sanding unless you really are good with a buffer. And even then, think about the surface you'll be buffing - not exactly flat...
Also, you can treat your rims just like your finish.
I used a claybar on mine and polished them up with some Z2.

Here's a couple pics -

That isn't even as clean as they get either ;)

the problem i have with that crap that makes tires look wet is that it always eats away a little of the rubber on the tires and all that rubber gets all over my rims and all over my car after i drive it like twice and it needs to be cleaned again. i don't like that stuff.

It doesn't eat rubber away from the tire.
What you're talking about is just the product itself, and it just spins off.
If you put it on too thick, it will spin off.
If you put it on thin, and let it soak in for a while - you get good results

You're probably talking about the EagleOne crap which tends to do that. Buy the Meguiars gel - it doesn't eat the tire and it makes it shiny.

I have one many competitions though with Crisco

Sandman - are those polished or chrome???

As you all know, mine are polished. Looky here:

Now, the only thing with polished is you have to be very talented. There is a guy one the board that is local to me that did mine. ChrisJ is his name. I'm sure he'd be willing to do you a set of polished wheels.
