I am not sure about the wiring diagrams, but as for the first question... fuses good. If the lights don't already come with fuses, put some on. It might just save you some prollems in the future.

Ahhh, one of those. Well the good thing about pluging into the cig lighter is that it has its own fuse. There is prolly a fuse in the plugy thingie that goes into the cig lighter. Are you going to use the power from the cig lighter... like just using the wires from the back of the lighter? That will still tie into the cig lighter fuse, but that might just be too much of a fuse and might blow the lights before the fuse pops. See if there is a fuse in the cig light plug thingie, and if there is any splicing going on, put an inline fuse of the same size.

what brand is it if its light glow when you shed the wire of the covering the power wire is copper and the ground is silver. as far as a switch goes mine are wired into my fuse panel then routed to a switch so when the car is off they wont come on.
