  • neon wiring question??? please help

I'm trying to figure out a way to wire the 9" neons i got.

I decided i might use the power for the cigarette lighter.

1.Which color wire is power back there??

2.Also, im gonna put a in-line fuse in, will that be alright since the cigarette lighter already has a fuse?

Oh yah.. i have a 95 camaro with a light in the glove box,
    3. can i splice that power wire from that??
    4. if i can splice that wire, is there a fuse in the fuse box for that, i looked really quick but i didnt see anything that said "lights"??

it probably wont say lights, a lot of the fuses are tied together for several things, it woudl have one main one and a couple of little things to the fuzes, but check your manual and it will give a list of what each fuse runs that should tell you, which wire to tap, as far as which one is which i would say that the black one is your ground and the other is the power. my ohter wire is orange but i dont know if its the same since its a different year. hope i helped

I would probably be better and easier to use the cigarette lighter wires. I believe they are red and black, but not 100% positive. I looked through all the wiring diagrams in my manual and can't find the one for the cig lighter.

yea black is generally a ground wire.

as for an inline fuse, it cant hurt to put one in. It would be an added safety so that you dont blow out the main fuse that the cig lighter is running off of, with the possiblity of loosing other functions on that fuse. Just make sure you put it where you can get to it easily.

If you use the cigarette lighter for anything (such as lighting cigarettes, charging a cell phone, plug in cd player, etc) and you wire more to it, then you rund the risk of exceeding the amperage rating for its fuse, and then your into that everlasting loop of always stopping at the gas station looking for the right fuse.

You can do it, just be aware that you may blow the amp rating for its fuse if you a large load on it.
Not a problem, just a challenge...

Do you have power seats? If you don't like me, you could use that lead under the driver seat. I was setting up a Temp Neon setup, just to see how it looked, and I used that. It worked pretty well.
