ive been doin some real considering here in the last month. i am going to get a hood for my car. i want to the slp ram air ho hood. but how well does those install? i heard they are hard to get on there right. i got a silver 2001 firebird with black decals,.. it looks just like this car,.. this is someones car on this site. http://www.redlinevsix.com/Members/Magic1872/more.htm

me and him has about the same taste apparently because after i get the hood itll be just like that. what do you all think?

Mine was an easy install....granted, it's a differnt hood, but same manufacturer.

well it is a pain to get on you actually have to shim the front bumper out or at least i did. but once it is onthere it looks sweet. black with red accents. you have to put the hood on the car for like 10 days though so it can cure, unpainted without saftey latch or hood struts, then to put the saftey latch back on you have to get it bent. like i said it has to cure for 10 days or until the fiberglass smell goes away (mine took 3 weeks by the way) but seeing how your car is pewter you wont be able to tell as bad as you could on mine. but like i said once its done i think its the best looking hood for our cars. the body lines match up very well

yeah i agree,..
ive never actually seen one in person,.. the people from ls1.com said they thought it was too squared. anyone know what they might mean by that?? i thought it looked more curved and sleek than the ws6. i believe im gonna get it,.

BlackByrd, the thing about letting the hood sit on your car for 10 is complete [img]graemlins/bs.gif[/img] I asked the guy that painted and put mine on he said that it the most stupid thing he has ever heard. Im not flameing you out or anything just letting you know. I ordered mine had it shipped, painted, and installed, right after it got painted and everyting is ok. Where did you hear that? Anyway, Im going to bed its 421am

I didnt hear it, said so on the slp sheet
and lemme tell you if mine didnt sit for the 10-14 days I had mine on, Id be out 250 bucks for paint
becuase my hood stretch and contracted big time
I constantly had to readjust it for those 2 weeks becuase id come outside and the hood would have moved in the heat.

i bought my hood from Moore Performance Fiberglass, www.fiberglass-hoods.com , it fit perfect when i got it, the only body work was some very minor ripples and such in the fiberglass, i highly recommend these guys, they make a VERY nice piece!

My cousin installed this hood on his 2000 W68 black Firebird. It fit well, but I don't know about paint. He bought it off of a guy from eBay who was selling his Trans Am for an S2000 :rolleyes: . His T/A was black, my cousin's car was black, so it was perfect!

About the fitting well: My cousin's brother, my brother, and myself thought it fit perfectly on the car, but the Firebird owner must've seen some misalignments, and sent it to a body shop so it would be perfect. Still looks the same to me, but it's his car.

The body shop that did my hood painted it, and told me that 10-14 day break in wasn't neccassary. Now, I odnt know if its just because they did a crappy job, but there are channels and wavy areas on both corners and right over the engine. It might just be the paint, because there are some drips and stuff, but it could also be because the hood shifted.

The break in period is total B.S. When I was going to get my hood replaced it was going to be replaced and done with (painted, installed) within 24-48 hours 1-2 days max and that mainly has to do with having the paint dry and harden and this was going to be done by a dealer. The only problem with mine was that the damn shipping company cracked the hood before ths shop recieved it so it had to be returned and I haven't gotten a chance to reorder it. It was the big block hood. My original hood was damaged in an accident and even that with repair and removing the paint, sanding, etc and then straitening and painting and drying only took about 5-6 days done by the dealers collision /repair department. When my whole front end was replaced it only took 24-48 hours to get painted and dryed and installed after they finally go the parts and there is no damage or mistakes of any sort to this day and it has been close to a year so far.

I had this hood on my V6 Firebird. I was one of the first people to get the hood when it first came out and I had to wait forever to get it. After it arrived and I had the hood and my car at the body shop to get it painted and installed, SLP made the suggestion to let the hood cure for the 10 days. My hood was already installed by that time so mine did not go through that process. Everything came out ok, but I can tell the hood shifted and there were defects on the hood that showed up later. Plus my car was black so everything was pretty noticable. The overall fit of the hood was decent. It didn't fit as perfectly as the stock hood but that was expected. Nobody could really notice it was off a little besides me. If you are spending $600 plus on a hood you should probably take every precaution to make sure it comes out right in the end and follow the manufacturers instructions.

there is a guy in northern KY who molds WS6 hoods hiself and sells them for $569. He has a good offer and 90 warranty, ive read a few comments from ppl who have bought there and they were all pros, no cons. but buying an aftermarket hood is a big step and a big risk. should i go for this or hold out????
