Hello, First timer here on the forum. I inhereted my dad's 95 camaro (3.4L) and finally got it on the road friday. Well sunday rolls around and i whack a deer. Yes, in a matter of 3 days i wreck the car. Anywho, my question is I'm looking for an aftermarket hood, the body shop i use suggested steel because fiberglass is more likely to crack because my car gets driven, a lot. I honestly dont like the looks of cowl induction hoods, so i was lookin for something else in a steel hood, any suggestions on where to go, or any commentary is welcome as well.
Thanks much,
Gabe

fiberglass cracks when you drive it a lot? lol. tell your bodyshop to shove it and put a fiberglass hood on there, something like the SS or Ultra-Z hood. a fiberglass hood wont crack from driving it around a lot.

fiberglass hoods will only crack when you run into something. fiberglass body parts always need to be replaced instead of being repaired if you are in an accident, but thats the only difference. you can get an ultraz hood or the SS hood in fiberglass. if you still want a steel hood get one of the two stock hoods. the SS is clearly the better looking choice.
yeah i agree with loochy, if you are set on steel get the SS hood, but its probably gonna cost you more since its gonna be oem, unless u find someone sellin one on a forum or ebay, i got a fiberglass cowl hood, its huge! i love it, people always compliment it. i would go with fiberglass

If you want steel, then replace it with the same hood...otherwise ask him to search for a used hood, SS or regular, it should be a lot cheaper. If he orders something stock for you, be sure to get an invoice to show it's new and call back a month later to see if he returns it. That way, you know he didn't get a used one from the yard and repaint it, then charge you for a new one.

Maybe it's me not knowing any better, but is fiberglass heavier than steel? Does anybody know of any carbon-fiber hoods that fit our cars, i've tried a few searches and came up with nothing good. Thanks for your help

i've had my fiberglass SS hood for i dont even know how long...fiberglass is fine...one place you can probably find an aftermarket factory looking hood is jcwhitney.com ...for cowl hoods check out suncoastcreations.com ...and for carbon fiber camaro hoods check out rksport.com ..you can get any of their hoods in carbon fiber for an additional cost...or just look on ebay...good luck!
