Yeah, I've seen the line. I'm pretty sure you cannot tint down farther than 6 inches from the top of the windshield in most (if not all) states.

I have 5% All around...including the front sun visor. Now picture 5% tint all the way around with blackouts covering front back and side lights at night

i have 20% all the way around, and too me its perfect. Im actually getting ready to tint the whole winshield, not just the little strip thingee..

30% might be a little to light..usually tint shops can show you samples...but it usally looks darker when its inside, so beware..

why would anyone want to tint the whole windshield?

Well, it depends upon your situation. First off, for me, I would LOVE to have it. Why? Because I am driving over 20,000miles this summer, and after driving for 5 hours through Arizona with well-reflecting roads, my eyes start to get very tired and I start to get headaches. Needless to say, I think it would be safer for me to be able to see than to be squinting and driving with a headache. That's just me, anyway.

illegal yes, stupid no. Its actually quite ingenious if you ask me..you tint the sides to keep the sun out of your eyes, but yet you look out the winshield??

I believe most if not all states require 30% at the most on the sides and rear only. For the windshield, there are two indications on either side of the windshield near the top that say ASI and have a line just beneath it. From that line to the top is what you can tint. Anything lower than that line is illegal.

Also.... most, if not all, states require a doctor's "prescription" to legally have your entire windshield tinted. Even then, it's up to the eye doctor to determine the percentage (darkness) of tint that you can have on the windsheild.
