Need your help and Vote

Well a while back i had some minor damage on my left fender, and it got fixed and repainted, but while the car was in the oven (anyone who has seen cars get painted know what i am talking about), bubbles formed on my wings west spoiler add on. This is the add on that is for the firebird wings. Anyways during this winter the bubbles cracked open and now there is a coin size (about the size of half dollar) chip on my wings west spoiler. There are also other bubbles where you can see the paint has lifted off the spoiler.

A friend of mine/painter quoted $150.00 to fix the chips. Basically he would have to unbolt the entier spoiler and strip the paint, and repaint it. He says he can't garantee that the wings west spoiler won't be ruined since he does not know what type of urathane it is made of. its possible that the chemicals he uses to strip the paint could also have negative affects on the wings west spoiler.

SO... here is the deal.

A) Should i spend the 150.00 and try to get the spoiler fixed (the wings west spoiler definately gives my firebird a unique and different look) OR

B) should i spend an extra 200.00 bucks and get a pre painted TA spoiler from a Salvage Yard?

I have always liked the TA spoiler, the delema is that i wonder if it will make my car look too much like a TA and make it look Ricey.

i'd go for the cheapest option first. if you damage the current one, then it's no big loss. i'd get some color match touch up paint from the dealership and fill the hole. then wet sand it down smooth.

if it still looked like azz, i'd get a new spoiler.

i could be wrong but i though you had to replace the hole hatch if you wanted the TA wing on the back of a firebird. i like the TA wing more but it seems like it would be cheaper/easier just to fix the 1 you have now.

Let me ask this? Why strip all the paint off it? It's pointless, especially if your worried about the negative effects it will cause. I work at a body shop and 100% of the time we never strip anything. We wet sand it usually with some 600 then we'll finish it off with some 1500 to make the paint stick. If they are paint chips the spoiler isn't ruined, anything can be fixed. Unless there are big chunks of it missing and it is cracked or something (which still is fixeable) it can easily be fixed if it is just the paint.

option b sounds good to me. I always think of getting $150 off in a situation like that. Kinda like using a coupon..

What is the likelyhood that you would find a TA hatch painted your color in perfect condition though. YOu might find one but you'd still might have to pay the extra money to get it painted. Which wouldn't be that much all in all. I wouldn't worry about your car being ricey. It all depends on what you like, and IMO I think one of best looking things on the road is that rear spoiler of the Trans-Ams, that is like the greatest thing.
