Door bumper guards on '96 Camaro

I have a Silver '96 Camaro and the rubber inserts half way up the door appear to be rusting. First, is that metal or rubber, and second how is it attached to the door? Need help - thanks

Im not completely sure,,but i think its plastic help on by 3m double sided tape...im not completely sure.

Im thinking about taking mine off since our cars are so low, those pieces serve no purpose. I saw one camaro without it and it looked 10times better.

It's some kind of glue or two sided tape. If you don't like it you can pill it off. I have heard of people who has done this, because not all camaro's have this. If you take it off, wax under it after you take it off to get rid of old glue.

I'm trying to figure out why the paint is coming off and it looks like there is rust around the door skin. Maybe contaminents in the paint or a poor prep job.
