• Help :( What gets paint off a car?

Well today at work they were painting a building on a hill a ways away from where a few of us park. They were using an air-pressured spray gun. Unfortunately with the wind it went down wind right onto 4-5 of our cars. (Keep in mind I got my car COMPLETELY repainted less then a month ago) It's a waterbased paint. I washed it and tryed using some elbow grease but theres still quite a few dots on it. White and Turquiose dots to be exact. Tomorrow afternoon at lunch I'm going to use Zaino's clay bar on it. Anyone have any other tricks I can try if this doesn't work? Thanks alot.

Chad

I woudl use paint thinner, and have a buket of water near by, wet a rag, with paint thinner, rub on paint brefily then dump water on spot immediantly afterwards, then use a damp cloth to try to get it off.

wann know whats a *****? when you get the piant they paint lines on the road on a car, spent 5 hours clenaing a Jimmy because of that.

I drove through white house paint going about 45 mph last month. It was a latex paint, but we got it off with about 3 hours of scrubbing with warm water and laundry detergent, and eventually using Brillo pads on some tough spots.

I'm not sure if it would work with other types of paint, but we managed to get a thick layer off a large portion of my truck with the scrub brush after it had about 7 hours to dry during school.

DEFINITLEY w/o a doubt use GASOLINE!! It is awesome...doesn't harm your paint. Use it on a Q-tip or on a rag...Just make sure to thoroughly wash and then wax your car afterwards.

My ex had someone paint a "friendly" message on his car before and this took it off EASILY!

Good Luck!

Take it back to the shop that painted it... Ask them what they do to get rid of overspray.
I would not put anything harsh on a brand new paint job unless the painter recommended it.

I had a bit of paint on my door from someone elses door being opened, and used this stuff. It took it off right away. You can buy it at wal mart in a toothpaste like tube. Just use a clean rag and a little bit of rubbing and it will be all good.

If you want to use a NON-abrasive, use a claybar.

ok this may sound crazy but try gasoline. it will not hurt your paint. try it in a little section and if it works do it to the whole car little by little while washing the gasoline away.

gas will peel off anything, I even got glue residue off my car with it.

USE GASOLINE! :D That is the only way to go but Cassie's right wash and wax your car after. My car was a rebuilder and i need to get lots of overspray off and that was the best way. If it's on your glass use Fine Steel wool and glass cleaner. It takes the stuff right off and cleans your glass really well. Doesn't scratch either. You can do that on Chrome peices too. Hope that Helps.

DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITHOUT TALKING TO THE SHOP

Listen, you can NOT put wax on that car, no cleaner waxes, no polishes, no harsh chemicals.

You could ruin the paint job and the warranty on it.

Had the paint cured for at least 60 days, many of these suggestions may work.

Only thing I would try without talking to the shop is claybar & dishsoap (most car detergents have wax in them).

Find out who was painting pronto in case it becomes a big deal to remove it as well.

Strobhen: That's what I use to think too. But I know peeps in the body shop business and they said you can wax new paint jobs right away nowadays.

As for the other suggestions...man, u got a lot of scrubbing to do if u use those abrassives. Not only are u gonna remove the dots, u are going to remove a lot of that clear coat in the process. That CLAY BAR should do the trick. If not, WD-40 works too. WD-40 also gets rid of those yucky road tars and whatnot that gets kicked up from the tires. U need to wash the car after using that, then wax it. And for the people that are going to argue, "WD-40"?? Yes, WD-40!! It was in a magazine ad. They were advertising "WD-40 use number blah blah blah",.,.,.,.,.,,.

GoodLuck
