  • Major damage, is it worth repairing?

Ok, the other night I was driving and the top of a tree fell on my car while I was driving down the road. I have a 1989 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertable with a 350 (not stock), Flowmaster 80 series exhaust, and some other small mods. So far, the damage I've seen and been quoted for is around $4,000, this is at the dealerships. The county is supposed to pay to have the car fixed (I've already talked to them but I haven't told them the estimates yet). Does anyone think it is worth repairing the car? Will they even repair the car or will they total it.. Here is a list of what I've found damaged so far.
Passenger side fender needs to be replaced. Front nose needs to be replaced, ground effects on the nose need to be replaced, the guards in the wheel wells on both sides need to be replaced, some little plastic clips under the hood, the rear spoiler is completely gone and destroyed, the wings or whatever you want to call them that come down the side of the car and hook up with the spoiler at the trunk, 1 of those is broken and has to be replaced. Passenger side door rattles alot more, antena no longer works, and a couple of other minor things. Just trying to get opinions right now.. Sorry for the long post.

well if it isn't totaled maybe, depends on how much the car is worth.

Well, I believe according to Kelly Blue Book before the accident it would be worth around $5,800 (thats for a completely stock setup), Im not sure if all the mods/new engine and all account towards this.. The factory told me that 80% of its value was $3,000 or so. The estimates I got from the dealership were between $3,500 and $4,000 but I don't think they mentioned re-painting the whole car, I think it'd look stupid as hell just to pain the pieces that are broke and leave the wrest look like it does beings as parts of the tree scratched up the rest of the car. Maybe I should go to another body shop instead of the dealer ship and find out what kind of estimate I could get from them.. Also, the engine smokes a little bit on start up, thought it was fuel injectors leaking down but I just replaced them and it didn't fix it so I guess rings??

Dude, that sucks... Chances are they will probably total it out. On a positive note, you will probably get the option to buy the car back for like $50 and a salvage title.

If there is no structural damage I would definitely fix it up...
