• Want to shorten your antenna?

Tired of having a goofy stock antenna that stands a freekin foot above your roof? Me to! Tonight I decided to do something about it. I got the idea from a mustang mod guide. All you have to do is this:

1. Unscrew stock antenna

2. (If you have a clamp it will make this step much easier)Clamp the antenna to your work bench, assuming you have them, if not then you can use your hand to hold it although it will be much more difficult.

3. Take a hammer and use the nail puller end to pull the little ball off the end of the antenna. (use caution as this thing will shoot off like a bullet when it finally comes off!!!)

4. (This next step is really hard if you don't have the right tools) You have to now take and cut down the antenna to the desired height. If you have some bolt cutters/metal cutters/pipe cutters or some other form of powerful cutting device use it to cut the antenna. If you don't have them or can't borrow one off someone then you'll have to be a little more creative. You can take a hammer/sledge hammer and a real strong flat head screw driver and simply hammer the screw driver through to part you want to cut. I really suggest you use bolt cutters or something similar though.

5. Now that you have the antenna the height you want your ready to re-apply the little ball. You'll need a very strong adhesive of some sort. You may even want to try and sand down the tip some so that the ball will fit onto it. Once you have it so that the tip will fit back in simply apply your adhesive and put the ball on top.

6. Once the adhesive drys you'll want to repaint the antenna either with spray paint or touch up paint to cover up the spots where you scratched the paint off.

7. After allowing the paint to dry simply screw the antenna back on a presto! A shorter sleeker more agressive looking antenna!

Note- I couldn't tell any difference in reception but I don't use my radio much anyways so whatever loss was more than worth it for the look it gives my car.

All in all this took me about 20 mins to do including the time it took to let the paint and glue dry. Very easy I give it a 1/10 on the difficulty scale.

I hope you guys find this usefull, just post your questions here if you have any and I'll try to get some pics up soon.
Have fun with this new free mod!

That antenna is rather annoying, I wish I could just shave the damned thing off all together. I rarely listen to the radio so it would barely be missed. Good find, I'll have to give it a try

It doesn't look cheap if you do it right. Mine looks better than the stock one did and the whole thing didn't cost a dime. Everyone should shorten their antennas! :D

I made a cap for my antenna myself. it looks good and its so much better looking that that stock antenna. I just took a small rubber cap off the end of some screw laying around in the basement, and I found a small, centimeter long plastic sleve about thee diameter of the screw where the antenna was. i put on the sleeve and then the cap and painted them the same black color as the base was.

I was just looking at mine and it does look stuped how tall it is on such a bad *** looking car, I would shorten mine that way but I listen to the radio ALL the time (cassette player no cd) I just dont want to loose any reception. I have been thinking of ordering one or looking for a smaller one.
